Kuanadup - El Valle

I was awake early at 6 am. There was a strong wind all night. After I packed my bag I had a shower and breakfast. Only a few guests were awake and I said goodbye to them. I left by boat just after 7 am. We went slow, probably because we were early. The waves were pretty high, 1 to 1.5 meters. Around 8.am, after more than an hour sailing, we were again at berth in the river at Carti. On the way I took some photos of the islands and the entrance of the river, which is filled with trees.

After a half hour waiting I could go with the car waiting for me. First an hour through the mountains. This time it was sunny and the view was beautiful. The environment is pretty overgrown with trees. After we left the mountains we were first at a piece of dirt road, where one is busy with reconstruction. Later it was a good road and we could drive easy to Panama City. There were no traffic jams. When we left the city on Monday there was 20 kilometers of cars going into the city.

After I was dropped off at a car rental company at Calle 50, I took said goodbye to the driver, who barely spoke English, and I filled in the papers for the lease of the car. I then drove out of the city, where the motor 1 time shut down on a busy road and I could not immediately get it started again. It is a new Toyota Yaris and you must first press the clutch to get the engine started. After some effort I found the route out of the city and drove across the bridge over the entrance of the Panama Canal. Then I continued to drive, although I took the wrong direction one time. The farther I came away of the city, the road became more empty.

The environment was pretty green and there were also various road works. After 2 hours of driving I was in El Valle. I drove through the village and then went to the hotel, Los Capitanos. This is located just outside the village. After checking in, I relaxed a bit and then I went to the village around 4 am to walk around there. I bought some water and cookies at a supermarket and at a phone shop a prepaid phone card. Furthermore there is a fruit and vegetable market and an art market. Except there are a lot of hotels in the village, which lies along the road, there is not much to do. I drove back to the hotel and drank some beers.

After reading my mail, I took a decent shower and went for dinner. The hotel was set up by a German captain and therefore there were many German dishes on the menu. After eating I listened to some music and went to sleep early.
