After breakfast, Tony was already waiting for me. Today we would visit the parts of Toraja which we did not vistit yet. We drove first to the cattle market on the way to Tentena. It was quiet, there were more cows and pigs than people. There were also some albino buffalo’s, which look pink. They are rare and sometimes they pay prices up to 500 miljoen rupiah (€ 33.000). On itself it looks pretty organized.
We continued to Nanggala, a traditional village with 13 rice barns with nice decorations and in a large bamboo shrub with a group of bats (flying foxes). After having viewed this we walked through the rice fields and we saw some beautiful flowers, large snails (which locals use as food) and some butterflies and dragonflies. Further a group of cranes.
Next, we drove to Ke'te Kesu with a number of traditional houses and the remains of a traditional funeral, but more interesting are the hanging graves to the rocks. Many of the caskets were already gone, and everywhere layers skulls and bones could be seen. Nowadays the deceased are buried in newly built graves. I walked around for a reasonable time, which is considered as the nicest one in the area, though you can doubt this. After looking around here we drove, through the rice fields, back to the hotel. I was not hungry, so I skipped lunch.
After relaxing I walked through Rantepao, but there is not much to see. I walked across some markets where especially vegetables and some clothing were sold. Not all places are really clean. In a shop I bought a few t-shirts.
Back at the hotel, watch a movie and then eat at Ares, the most popular restaurant in town. I had to wait long for my food, but it was actually good. Back to the hotel after dinner and watch some TV. Then sleep.
