Travellingman reisverhalen - - Raja Ampat (Birie)
Day 17: Maandag 23 maart 2015
Raja Ampat (Birie)

Again just after 6am we were awake. It was a bright morning. Before breakfast we saw pass the Dungon again. After breakfast we prepared to go diving. The boat sailed to an outer reef, which lasted about 20 minutes. The dive was at Palau Dua. A nice place with lots of coral and some sand at depth. Of course a Manta swam to the surface when we were just 20 meters depth, but we could just see the colossus. An Eagle ray I just missed, but Martin and Nico did see him. Furthermore, Garden eels, nudibranchs and too many fish, even in large schools, to name them all by name (If I even could). After 65 minutes we were back at a completely smooth sea.

We sailed back to the Birie island and had a coffee break at the jetty of house reef number 2. Under the jetty was an enormous school of smaller fish, resembling sardines, but they were not.

After a 90 minutes break, we went for the second dive, in the same place where we were yesterday afternoon, only now just bit further at Rulemeser point. There was some current, but that nudibranchs seem not to bothered by it. In the corner There were lots of big fish, but also further small fry in the sand and numerous holes, skillfully constructed with pieces of old coral. After 69 minutes we were back on the surface and was our last dive in Raja Ampat a fact.

By boat we sailed back and after rinsing the diving gear we went for lunch. In the afternoon it was terribly warm. Actually we wanted to take some pictures, but we did not have the energy for this.

The clothing that needed drying we put on the porch, because the sun was shining full on it. The rest of the afternoon we did not do much. Even lying in the hammock was too hot for me. Around 5.15 pm Nico came to bring our belongings that had been drying on the jetty. Later we watched the sunset, which was not fully visible, because there was a cloud.

On the other side of the ocean hung threatening rain clouds. The rain stayed away but it is enormously humid. Around 6.30 pm we went to pay the bill (drinks and park fees) and then dinner. Then pack our bags, which was quickly done. First it was still cloudy, but was barely half an hour later, a beautiful starry sky. Though it was slightly cooler, it was warm when we went to sleep.
