Travellingman reisverhalen - - Jambiani
Day 14: Donderdag 24 mei 2018
Jambiani

Just before seven, I was awake. The sea was again without wrinkle. Wake up quietly with a cigar and some reading. Breakfast around 8 o'clock. I read and did nothing until 9.30 am. Then I walked to the dive shop. I paid the US$ 200 for 2 days of diving. There would be another diver, and there was it waiting for. It was a German woman who had received the dives as a surprise gift from her husband. She had not been diving for eight years. It was getting busy on the beach. There were 2 stingrays caught and they were sold by auction. They had to be transported with a wheelbarrow. Good for the locals, for us as divers a little less. But that's life.

After everything was ready, we boarded a wooden boat that slowly went through the waves. With a 15 horse power engine we were not so fast. We set up the tanks and were led outside the reef. It was a half hour sailing. We made a first dive between 15 and 20 meters deep. Beautiful coral and many fish and also octopus, African lipfish, nudybranches and many other underwater life. There was a strong current and it was sometimes difficult to take pictures. After 50 minutes we surfaced again.

We got some fruit and I chatted with the German woman. She did very well for 8 years of non-diving. She also enjoyed it. After three quarters of an hour back into the water. Again a drift dive. Many varied fish, grouper, parrotfish, lobster and octopus and beautiful coral. I did get into decompression (which means I stayed to deep for too long) and had to make a longer safety stop (time at 6 meter to get rid o the nitrogen). After 50 minutes again at the surface and after the dismantling of the bottles slowly return. We took another fisherman in tow that had a kind of raft of mostly made of empty water bottles. Beautiful reuse.

We were back around 2 pm. I said goodbye to the German woman and read a little and relaxed the rest of the afternoon. Later in the afternoon I walked through the southern part of the village. Here too, many small houses and in some places with central water points, apparently not every house has a water supply.

After listening to some music around 7.45 pm dinner. I ate a Jack fish (family of the horse mackerel) that I got as a whole on a plate. After dinner I had a chat with a musician from Mauritius, who performs at Zanzibar and teaches at the Music Academy in Stonetown. Then read some more and listen to music.
