Bunaken
Around 6.15 AM I was awake. My bungalow overlooks the sea, but also to the side where the sun rises. The sun shines straight into my room, despite the curtains. I walked to the village, where the people were already pretty active. Most houses were built of stone and it seems that the people here are fairly prosperous. The village consists of a Christian area with a church and a Muslim area with a mosque.
Around 7.30AM I had a breakfast. It is a buffet and it tasted good. I spoke with Manuel. He's here just a few weeks for work and it turned out that earlier this year he was on Little Corn Island (Nicaragua), just in the time I was there as well. We have not met each other there, because he worked at an other dive resort than where I was diving. The world can sometimes be small.
After breakfast, gear up for 2 dives. We went by boat to the South side of the island and made 2 dives. The first was at Ron's point. Here again various nudibranches, small crabs, trumpet fish, clown fish, but also a lobster and black belt Moray and anemones.
After an hour waiting and a move to another diving spot, we made a second dive at Turtle City. Here we saw at least 10 turtles, but also Pygmy seahorse, giant moray eel, shrimp and many schools with fish along the wall of mainly hard coral, which looked fine. The water was nice and warm with 29 a 30 °C.
Around 1 PM we were back and had a buffet lunch. I talked somewhat with my dive buddy Laetitia, a French woman who has just quit her job and is now travelling for 3 months all over the world.
After lunch I relaxed in my hammock. Later in the afternoon I saw a nice rainbow, bur there was no rain on the island. I thought we were going to make a twilight dive, but that turned out to be a misunderstanding. Meanwhile I had done some more laundry and after the sunset we had around 7.30 PM an evening meal. After some chatting and listening to music, I went to sleep.
