Travellingman reisverhalen - - Terengganu
Day 12: Maandag 11 april 2016
Terengganu

I was around 7.30 AM out of bed after a good night's sleep. Downstairs I went to have breakfast, a large buffet, but I was not very hungry. Around 9 AM I stood with my daypack outside, it was not extremely hot yet. I walked to the north and ended up in a small park. Nice, but the only 'colorful' place among all empty plots and messy surrounding.

I walked on and passed a number of stalls on the side of the road opposite a explicit building. A little further on there was a huge Pasar, an indoor market. Until now, the largest I had seen. There is lots different kind of food for sale. Fruits and vegetables I had never seen. It was early and not everything was open. On the other side of the building I came to a kind waterfront, well not quite 'front', because there was still a large area with all kinds of artificial trees and a large sign with 'I Love KT’ in between. Where KT stands was not clear to me at first, but it stands for Kuala Terengganu. I walked along the water with the white separation to the water that was made quite decorative.

At the end of the waterway I walked back one street and came in Chinatown, so it seemed though, many shops, Chinese temple and even a green alley (you won't find any trees or plants for the rest). I walked down the street and came back at the beginning of the waterway.

I walked in the direction of the real waterfront, a dilapidated strip with lot of holes with some playgrounds for children. I went sitting here in the shade and looked out on a dredging barge apparently deepen the channel as it was. Several anglers carried along. The waterfront is really faded glory.

I walked on, but not quite in the right direction. So I came to a place where I really did not wanted to go. I followed a main road and finally came to the stadium. But here I went wrong again and walked to the south instead of the east or north. I tried to 'shortcut' through a residential area, but apart to see how rich people live (peace and many play grounds) there was nothing special. In the end I was at the same place. Meanwhile it was getting pretty hot and I bought in a shop a cold Ice tea which I greedily drank.

I continued walking by the stadium and came out to the road where I wanted to be, Jalan Sultan Ismail. I crossed it and walked along the stadium.

Around 2 PM I was back at the hotel, where I in my room quickly took off the sweaty clothes. As expected, it's too hot to do anything in the afternoon the temperature rose to 38 C. I stayed in my room and did some work on my website. This time the internet was faster.

Later in the afternoon I spoke to a porter from the hotel. He does guided tours regularly and gave me a booklet with interesting things in the region.

Around 5 PM, I walked into town again. In a shop I had seen traveling bags, but I could not find the shop again. My own travel bag is a bit wearing out and should be replaced actually. I noticed the shops here already close to 6 PM. I walked past a mosque and back to the hotel again to my room to take a refreshing shower.

Around 8 PM I went to eat at a small restaurant across the street. It was nicely decorated with all kinds of high profile cases such as a flag of Bob Marley, Australian traffic sign and other such things. Pretty funny fabricated. The menu was limited, but the Nasi with Mie and for other matters, tasted pretty good. I only had to pay RM 12, which is substantially less than in the hotel (which costed me RM 40 yesterday).

In the hotel I smoked a cigar and stayed further in my room where I watched some TV and worked on my travel diary and booked a hotel for tomorrow (and following days). Later that evening I walked a bit to the restaurant, where the 'What's New Band' was still paying covers for an empty room. I listened to a few songs and went to bed.
